GREENMONKEY AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT: THE FUTURE IS AMELIA
She rides everything, fears nothing, and she is already making ripples on the New Zealand racing scene. Meet Amelia Burkhart; GreenMonkey's youngest ambassador.
"From Tour Aotearoa on a tandem to chasing World Cup dreams, Amelia Burkhart doesn't just ride bikes. She lives them."
The Multi-Discipline Dynamo
Some athletes pick a lane. Amelia Burkhart wins in all of them.
Cross-country, enduro, road, track, bikepacking, she doesn't just dabble across disciplines, she dominates them. National champion on the track. NI champion in XCO, enduro, road and crit. Faster than older teens at Hawke's Bay. Fourth woman overall at Karapoti. All before most riders her age have figured out which discipline they even want to focus on.
She has been a proud GreenMonkey ambassador for several years, we made her first custom bib shorts when she was just 11 years old. Back then we thought she was a promising young rider. We had no idea!
We believe she is one of the most exciting young cycling talents in New Zealand. And the results are starting to agree with us.
THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
"She's completely self-motivated. She just needs a functioning bike." — Amelia's dad

ASPIRATIONS
Chasing the World Stage
Most riders dream of national titles. Amelia is already collecting them. So what does someone like that dream of next?
The XCO World Cup circuit. And the Giro Donne, road cycling's greatest women's stage race.
For a rider who has already proven she can dominate across mountain and tarmac at national level, these aren't fantasy goals. They are a logical next step for an athlete who has spent her formative years refusing to be boxed into a single discipline, and winning across all of them.
The explosive power that wins track championships translates directly to XCO. The endurance that carries her through Karapoti and the Whaka 50 is the same engine that wins Grand Tours. She is building both, simultaneously, with every training session and every race entry.
The Vision
Compete at XCO World Cup level
Ride in the Giro Donne stage race
Represent New Zealand internationally
Build a career across multiple disciplines
Inspire the next generation of NZ women
She isn't waiting for permission to dream big. The results already justify it.
INSPIRATIONS
Ask Amelia who drives her forward and she doesn't hesitate. She draws from a constellation of extraordinary women, and one unexpected outlier; who each embody something she strives for.
Sammie Maxwell
New Zealand's own mountain bike trailblazer. Proof that Kiwi women can compete and conquer on the world stage. For Amelia, she's local legend and living proof. Sammie was also part of the GreenMonkey clan, winning a World Cup race in her GreenMonkey Rainbow race suit!
Pauline Ferrand-Prevot
The French phenomenon who has won world titles across road, CX, and MTB. A multi-discipline icon who showed the world that versatility is a superpower, not a weakness.
Puck Pieterse
Dutch sensation rewriting the rulebook. Puck's fearless racing style and astonishing youth remind Amelia that age is no barrier when the engine and attitude are right.
Ellesse Andrews
New Zealand's track cycling queen and Olympic medallist. Ellesse's dominance on the boards fuels Amelia's own track sessions and shows what home-grown excellence truly looks like.
Tom Pidcock
The one name on her list who doesn't share her gender, but absolutely shares her ethos. Pidcock's cross-discipline mastery across XCO, road, and CX is the blueprint Amelia is building her career from.
HER "NORMAL" WEEK
There's nothing ordinary about Amelia's weekly schedule. It's a masterclass in commitment, stacking high-intensity sessions, community riding, and competitive racing into a rhythm that would exhaust most seasoned pros.
What's remarkable isn't just the volume, it's the variety. Training alongside U19 boys on the track pushes Amelia's raw speed beyond what a women-only group might demand. The W.O.R.D. social rides keep riding joyful and community-centred. And weekend races? Those are simply where the week's work gets expressed, across whichever discipline calls loudest.
Track Training
Structured speed and power sessions with U19 boys, pushing limits that build race-winning strength and acceleration.
W.O.R.D. Social Rides
World Off-Road Riding Department is a community based youth mountain bike charity based in Wellington. They provide amazing life changing youth mountain bike programmes for young riders, which Amelia is part of.
Weekend Racing
XC, Enduro, Road, CX, Amelia rotates across disciplines depending on the calendar, gaining race-craft in every terrain imaginable.
MOTIVATION & WEARING THE FERN
"Fun First. Glory Follows."
Here is what makes Amelia Burkhart genuinely unusual. She has national titles, regional championships across five disciplines, and open category results that beat riders years older than her. And her dad's guiding philosophy throughout has been simple: just enjoy riding bikes.
No structured goal-setting. No pressure. No grand plan. Just a functioning bike and the freedom to ride.
The results are entirely her own making.
That combination, intrinsic motivation paired with natural multi-discipline talent; is extraordinarily rare.
Most champions are built. Amelia is simply becoming. The titles are a byproduct of someone who loves riding bikes more than almost anything else, and who happens to be exceptionally good at it across every terrain you put in front of her.
Wearing the fern, representing New Zealand in competition, isn't an external goal someone set for her. It is where her own ambition has led her. Organically. Inevitably.
She wants to be the rider that young Kiwi girls point to and think: that could be me. Given everything she has already achieved, that day is closer than most people realise.

BIKEPACKING JOURNEY
Before the World Cup podiums come and Grand Tour ambitions, there was a loaded touring bike, an open road, and the whole of Aotearoa to explore together with her dad. Amelia's bike-packing adventures reveal a side of her that pure race results never could, an adventurer's soul, a deep love of the land, and an unshakeable spirit of exploration.
Tour Aotearoa: On a Tandem
The Tour Aotearoa is one of the world's great bikepacking routes, stretching the full length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff. She has completed the route twice with her dad on a tandem bike.
On the most recent attempt, a cracked frame forced them to stop in Whanganui. But that moment was never about failure — it was about pushing as far as they could, together, and meeting the setback with grit and perspective.
That shared suffering, the synchronised pedalling, the trust required between two riders — it's an experience that forged something beyond fitness. It built character, resilience, and an unbreakable bond with the roads of home, and only fuels her determination to return and finish.
North Island
As Amelia has gotten older, she is now more capable of riding long distances on her own mountain bike, with her dad along for the ride.
Most of these rides have been focused on the North Island, through volcanic plateaus, dense bush, and wind-scoured coastlines. The kind of terrain that demands self-sufficiency, navigational confidence. These trips are more than pure training, they are a recalibration and a reminder of why riding bikes for joy outweighs the stress of racing.
MEET AMELIA IN ACTION
From the velodrome to the trails, the tarmac to the back-country, Amelia's world is one of constant motion, in her quest to reach the world stage, representing the New Zealand fern.
BEHIND THE RIDE
Every great performance is underpinned by the right kit, the right attitude, and the right community. Amelia's story is built on all three, and GreenMonkey is proud to be part of the journey.
Race-Tested Gear
Every product Amelia uses has been put through the full spectrum of her training, from velodrome sprints to muddy enduro descents. If it survives her week, it's earned its place.
Sustainable Performance
GreenMonkey's commitment to conscious performance aligns perfectly with Amelia's love of the natural world. Riding fast doesn't have to cost the earth. GreenMonkey partners with HIGG certified manufacturers.
Community at the Core
From W.O.R.D. social rides to Tour Aotearoa, Amelia's riding is never just about personal performance. It's about bringing people together through the universal language of two wheels. She is a proud Global Citizen for cycling.

You have just read the story of a rider who became a national champion without anyone asking her to. Who crossed the North Island on a tandem with her dad. Who finished Karapoti fourth woman overall and shrugged it off like a casual Sunday ride. Who, when a cracked frame ended a bikepacking trip at Whanganui, simply said: "such is life".
She is GreenMonkey's youngest ambassador. She is one of New Zealand's most exciting young cyclists. And she is only just getting started.
